Frio
Frio is Alma Coffee's answer to the perfect summer cold brew—a post-roast blend born from two distinct lots at Finca La Unica in Georgia's scorching 2020 summer. Roaster Leticia, a fifth-generation coffee farmer, combines a natural process and a washed coffee from her high-altitude farm, roasts them individually to ideal development, then blends them for balance and complexity. The result is a cold brew that delivers familiar chocolate and nut comfort with an unexpected thread of bright, natural fruit running beneath.
Tasting Notes
Frio's dual-process blend creates layered sweetness: rich chocolate and roasted nut from the washed component, stone fruit and berry brightness from the natural. The body is smooth and syrupy without heaviness, with a clean finish that invites another sip. Acidity is gentle and rounded, perfect for cold extraction that amplifies sweetness and tames sharpness. This is a cold brew that tastes intentional—structured yet easygoing, complex but never fussy.
Brew Methods
Frio is purpose-built for cold brew, where its dual profiles merge into something greater over 12–24 hours of immersion. Use a coarse grind (like for French press) and a 1:8 coffee-to-water ratio for concentrate, or 1:16 for ready-to-drink strength. It also thrives as flash-brewed iced coffee or Japanese-style pour-over over ice, where hot extraction pulls more acidity and brightness before rapid cooling locks in clarity. If you're feeling adventurous, try it as espresso over ice—it pulls sweet and balanced with minimal bitterness.
About the Roaster
Alma Coffee operates its own family farms in Colombia and Georgia, giving roaster Leticia hands-on control from seed to cup. Finca La Unica, once cattle pasture, now flourishes with shade-grown coffee, strategically placed trees, and wild flora that support both quality and biodiversity. Alma's farm-to-roaster model ensures traceability and intention in every bag.
Not sure which grinder settings or cold brew equipment will optimize Frio? Clive's coffee team is here to dial in your setup, whether you're brewing by the pitcher or by the gallon.
