Santa Rosa 1900 - Costa Rica

Santa Rosa 1900 - Costa Rica

Some coffees announce themselves. Others invite you in quietly. Santa Rosa 1900 from Greater Goods Roasting is the latter—a washed Costa Rican coffee grown at 1900 meters in the León Cortés micro-region of Tarrazú, where cool temperatures, sandy soils, and steady mountain winds slow the ripening process and build clarity into every bean. Producer Efraín Naranjo Naranjo farms the Macho lot with 13-year-old Catuai trees that bring consistency and depth to each harvest. The result is a clean, refined cup with baked apple sweetness, warm allspice, and a honeycomb richness that lingers without ever feeling heavy.

Tasting Notes

Expect baked apple up front—ripe but never jammy—alongside a subtle warmth of allspice that adds dimension without dominating. The honeycomb quality comes through in the body: silky, slightly viscous, with a sweetness that coats the palate. Acidity is bright but composed, more like crisp orchard fruit than citrus punch. The finish is clean and expressive, leaving traces of caramelized sugar and gentle spice. This is a coffee that doesn't shout, but it holds your attention.

Brew Methods

Santa Rosa 1900 shines across methods. As a pour over (V60, Chemex, Kalita Wave), it shows off its clarity and delicate spice notes beautifully. In a French press, the honeycomb body becomes more pronounced, with fuller texture and sweetness. It also pulls well as espresso—balanced, medium-bodied shots with baked fruit sweetness and a clean finish. Start with a medium grind for drip or immersion, finer for espresso, and dial in from there. This coffee rewards precision but forgives experimentation.
