Tangletown
Tangletown is Zoka Coffee's founding blend—the coffee that opened their Green Lake storefront in Seattle's Tangletown neighborhood in 1997. Named after the famously confusing intersection where old trolley lines once tangled, this light-medium roast has become a Seattle institution, built on long-standing relationships with Central American and Colombian coffee farms.
This is a blend designed for everyday ritual: approachable, bright, and endlessly drinkable. Zoka's roasters have refined Tangletown over more than two decades, balancing sweetness and acidity in a way that rewards both casual drinkers and coffee geeks paying attention.
Tasting Notes
Expect sweet citrus up front—think orange zest and Meyer lemon—with a crisp, clean finish that never turns sharp. The body is medium and smooth, with a natural sweetness that carries through each sip. There's no bitterness here, just balanced acidity and a lingering brightness that makes you reach for another cup. This is morning sunlight in liquid form.
Brew Methods
Tangletown shines brightest in methods that highlight clarity and brightness. Pour over (V60, Chemex) brings out its citrus notes beautifully, while drip coffee makers deliver consistent, crowd-pleasing cups every time. It also works well as a mellow, fruit-forward espresso if you're looking for something lighter in your morning cappuccino. French press softens the acidity slightly and adds body—still delicious, just a different expression of the same beans.
