Uganda Rwenzori Natural

Uganda Rwenzori Natural

Tasting Profile

Flavor Notes: watermelon and candy-like sweetness, heavy body, juicy acidity

Origin: Uganda  |  Region:  Rwenzori Mountains |  Process: Natural

Ugandan coffee production has come a long way! In the past it was known for producing large volumes of lower quality, blending coffees sold primarily to commercial roasters. Today, dedicated producers, exporters, marketers and importers are helping change the narrative about this origin. We feel grateful to play a small role in the process. This coffee is from the western region of the country, near the border with Democratic Republic of Congo. The snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains are often called Mountains of the Moon due to their reference in ancient geography as being a source to the Nile River.

Smallholder producers grow coffee amongst other crops to sustain their households. The coffee is picked and then dried on raised beds until it reaches a stable moisture content. It is then sent to a mill to be processed, checked for quality and exported.

Fun fact: this coffee plays a big role  in our Foreglow blend

Elevation: 2000-2200 meters above sea level
